On Saturday, 26th August, all eyes were on the Clore Ballroom at the Southbank Centre with another episode Planet Summer Festival Programme, curated and produced by Creative Resilience International. Starting the proceedings was an incredible installation by artists, Rasaq, Gary March and Nicola Reid. The installation called “There is no such thing as rubbish” represented the second-hand clothes landfills in Africa and worldwide and the impact it has on the local environment and economies.
At 3pm, two very packed workshops held by the amazing Anita Quansah and Caroline Mosyemi Up taught visitors the art of upcycling old clothes and embellishment.
At 5pm a Town Hall talk commenced featuring speakers: Sokari Douglas Camp, Kamya Chaudhary, Francesca Zoppi and Peter Musembi and hosted by Tracey Sage.
The evening closed out with a fashion show featuring the brilliant fashion designs of George Adesegun, Re:I.D., House of Arouni and Caroline Mosyemi Up. Live performances from outstanding singer, Sodi Cookey and talented poet, Pelúmi made the event all the more special
